Epione and our Treatment Ethos
In Greek mythology, Epione was the Greek goddess of pain relief. She was the personification of the soothing of pain and the care needed for recovery. Her name is derived from the word ἤπιος (epios, "soothing").
Inspired by Epione, Bermuda Pain Clinic's mission is to provide comprehensive, compassionate care focused on relieving pain and improving the quality of life for our patients.

Dr Charles Swart, FRCA
Dr Charles Swart is an Oxford, fellowship trained pain physician and consultant anaesthetist. He has been practicing pain management and anaesthesia for more than 20 years. He was the first pain specialist to introduce radiofrequency therapy to Bermuda. Radiofrequency is a minimally invasive and effective treatment for a variety of pain conditions.
His approach to acute, chronic and cancer pain includes:
• Comprehensive Assessment;
• Patient Education;
• Medication Management;
• Evidence-based Interventional Pain Management;
• Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams and other healthcare professionals to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to pain management; and,
• Documentation and communication with his patients, patients' families, collaborators and other stakeholders to ensure a cohesive approach to manage pain.
When he is not looking after patients you will find him riding his mountain bike or traveling the world with his Leica camera.

We understand the importance of access to quality care. Bermuda Pain Clinic accepts most major insurance plans, and we are dedicated to helping you navigate the insurance process. For uninsured or self-pay patients, we offer flexible payment options to ensure you receive the care you need. As a first time patient, it is customary for you to be referred to us initially by your General Practitioner (GP) or other medical professional.
